LAAS author engine is a easy to use software designed to create and distribute question databases. There are lot of operations that can be performed using author author, right from creating a new exam to, popluating questions, adding students, creating groups, assigning exams and many more. Content engine which is included in author can be used to create lessons and arrange them in levels (like subject, topic, chapters), it allows entering remote URL, text, html, pdf, image, video, audio, multimedia, docx, excel, and ppt files. Assessment engine allows candidates to import the exams provided by the author and then take the exams. User can add any number of test/assessment modules (Database created using author engine). Each test/assessment module is treated as a separate exam and can be used independently. One demo exam is added by default to assessment engine.

1. Adding test/assessment modules :
This feature allows candidates to import the .auth file exported using author engine and distributed by author. Import can be done by selecting the .auth file directly from a location on system (Local), or by using the link of .auth file on internet (URL). Once the test is imported it will be listed on exam engine screen under installed test modules. Installed test modules can be easily removed by using remove test feature provided.
2. Candidate Login:
This feature is used by candidates to login in to LAAS assessment engine using the email id or User ID and password received in their email id. This login is created by Admin/Author while creating candidates using author engine. If Admin/Author has enabled OTP feature in exam configuration, candidate will have to enter OTP (One Time Password) received in email id every time they try to login.
3. Exam Modes (Learn and Exam):
Exam Engine allows candidate to use the test in two modes learn mode which provides interactive learning environment where candidate can go through each question and view flash cards and correct answers for each question, and exam mode which simulates actual exam environment in which candidate needs to answer exam created by instructor in a given time without any help from flash cards.
4. Learn Mode Settings:
When candidate selects learn mode to take the exam, he/she can set various prameters for exam himself like randomizing questions, randomizing answers or both. setting time duration for exam, selecting all questions at once or specific number of questions. Candidates can also select questions that were previously bookmarked, or questions which were incorrectly answered in previous learn mode exam. Candidates can also create a customized exam by selecting questions from entire list.
5. Exam Mode Settings :
When candidate selects exam mode to take the exam he/she will have to select one of the exams listed. Each listed exam will have same number of questions randomly selected from entire question set. Which exams are available is decided by Author using exam configuration. Candidates can also select questions that were previously bookmarked, or questions which were incorrectly answered in previously taken exam. Candidates can also create a customized exam by selecting questions from entire list.
6. Exam Screen :
Exam screen is the screen where candidate will be able to view and answer the questions. Along with previous/next navigation it gives option to reset answer and take notes for the question. In learn mode it gives option to show correct answer and explanation for the question. There is option to bookmark questions and to review questions. Candidates can pause the exam timer if enabled by author. Candidates can also set the screen font size, keep screen in light/dark mode, and take exam in full screen mode.
7. Grade Screen :
Once the candidate has finished taking the exam their performance will be displayed in this screen. It shows all the details of the exam score including score obtained, pass percentage and percentage obtained by candidate. It gives information of how much candidate has scored in each of the category. It also has a option to review all the incorrectly answered questions. All results will be saved automatically when the grade screen is closed.
8. Saved Results Analysis :
This feature allows the candidate to view saved results. Each result will show details like date and time when the exam was taken, how much score was obtained and if the candidate pass the exam or not. Results will also show how many questions were answered correctly and how much time was spent on coreectly answered questions, same details will also be available for incorrectly answered and unanswered questions. Results will also show detailed time analysis for each of the category with number of correctly, incorrectly and unanswered questions and time taken for them.
9. Reviewing Saved Results Questions :
Once candidate has finished taking exam and results are saved they can anytime review the questions appeared in the exam from saved results. It will show what answers were selected for each question and if the question was correctly answered or not. Candidates can also export all these questions to a pdf file for record purpose. This feature also shows how much time was taken by candidate to answer each question.
10. Exam Configuration :
Exam Engine Module too has a option to set exam configuration which will be made available only if author of the exam enable it. This feature can be used by exam coordinator to set exam environment which include number of questions in exam, time allowed to take exam, and pass percentage and allowed exam modes. Exam coordinator can also set features available to students while taking exams like using previous button, reviewing questions, bookmarking questions, pausing timer. They can also allow/disallow retaking bookmarked and incorectly answered questions again. This feature also gives option to sechdule exam at specific time before which candidates won't be able to start the exam.
11. Customize logo :
This feature allows you to add your own logo to LAAS exam engine. You can easily customize exam engine to use your own company logo in all the screens of the application.
12. Adding Lessons :
This feature allows candidates to import the .auth file exported using author engine and distributed by author. Import can be done by selecting the .auth file directly from a location on system (Local), or by using the link of .auth file on internet (URL). Once the lesson is imported it will be listed on exam engine screen under installed lessons modules. Imported lessons can be easily removed by using remove lesson feature provided.
13. Viewing Lessons :
This option allows the user to view lessons already present in learning and assessment engine. Lessons window will have two sections. Left section will list all the lessons added arranged in levels you can click on any lesson title to open lesson on right side section. Lessons can be reset the lesson to default state (not read), bookmarked for later.
14. Adding Author(s):
Any number of authors can be added by administrator by providing name and email id details. Once the author account is activated they can be assigned to any number of exams, post which they will be able to populate and edit questions in assigned question database. Authors also have ability to add students, create groups, setting exam configurations and exporting exams for distribution.
15. Adding Candidates(s):
This feature can be used by the author to create any number of candidates which can take the exam. Each candidate will have a separate login using his/her email id and password, they can also be assigned unique user id which can also be used to login along with password. Also each candidate can be assigned to any number of groups/classes.
16. Adding Group(s):
This feature can be used by the author to create any number of groups/classes/sections to organize students. Groups are created by giving unique name. Then groups can be assigned to exam so that all the candidates present in that group can take the assigned exam. One exam can be assiged to any number of groups.
17. Adding Categories/Subcategories :
Each question entered in the exam must belong to one category (topic) and a sub category (optional) under main category. While entering the questions authors can select the category/subcategory to which that paticular question belongs. The result analysis shown to the candidate at the end of the exam will contain category wise score and time analysis to help candidate understand how he performed in each of the topics.
18. Adding Questions :
Currently Computer Based Test Software supports Multiple Choice Single Answer (MCSA) and Multiple Choice Multiple Choice Multiple Answer (MCMA) question types where question and answer options can be entered as plain text, rich text format using HTML editor and PDF file. Each question can have exhibit images, audio/video file for question part and for the explanation.
19. Review Questions :
Review feature can be used to view all questions at once with option to edit and delete a question. It allows to click on any question to open the question editor, option to select and delete any question. Once questions are deleted from the database they cannot be recovered. Review screen gives a glance of entire question database at once and makes it easier for the authors to find a paticular question for editing/ deleting.
20. Preview Questions :
Preview feature is useful for author to view how the questions entered by him will be shown to the candidate taking the exam. Along with previous and next navigation button it has option to view correct answer(s) and explanation if provided by the author. It also displays the information about who is original author of this question and who last edited this question.
21. Setting Exam Configurations :
This feature allows the author to set the parameters for the exam environment which include number of questions in exam, time allowed to take exam, and pass percentage. Author can also set if students are allowed to view exam questions only in learn mode, exam mode or both. Author can also set features available to students while taking exams like using previous button, reviewing questions, bookmarking questions, pausing timer. It also includes some optional settings like setting exam to online/offline mode, use of OTP sent to student's registered email id when they try to login, enabling geolocation tracking and image casting for monitoring online exams.
22. Creating Sub Tests :
This feature is helpful to create multiple question sets from master question database. For example Author has populated a "Maths" question database with 500 questions. Using this feature author can create subtests with different set of questions from the main database. say "Maths SET 1" is created with 50 questions and is assigned to section A students, "Maths SET 2" is created with another 50 questions and is assigned to section B students. Questions can be selected manually or in random order. It also shows how many questions are selected from each topic.
23. Exporting Exam for Distribution :
This feature is used to create a .auth file which has to be distributed to candidates. Once author has finished entering questions into the exam database, he/she needs to Export the question database to any known location. All the related files are saved in that directory. You can also provide version number of the export file and a password which will be required for starting the exam in exam engine.
24. Adding Content Levels:
The contents you add can be organized into 3 levels [Level 1 (say, Subject), Level 2 (say, Topic), and Level 3 (say, Sub Topic)]. Use this option to add and edit these titles. You can have up to 3 levels. For example : For a Maths lessons author may add "Pure Mathematics" as a Level 1 title under which "Algebra", "Calculus", "Geometry" etc are added as level 2 titles. So when a lesson is insterted the author can select the topic and specific sub topic under which the lesson is to be added.
25. Adding Content :
This option allows you to enter the content under selected title. You can add Remote URL, text, html, pdf, image, video, audio, multimedia, docx, excel, and ppt files. Please note that you need to have the content ready for use.
26. Preview Content :
This option will display all your added content in one place organized in levels.Left section will list all the lessons added arranged in levels you can click on any lesson title to open lesson on right side section.
27. Exporting Content :
Once author has finished entering lessons into the database, he/she needs to export the lessons to any known location. All the related files are saved in that directory.
